Recipient Org: Description St Albans Mencap is a local, independent charity that has been supporting children and adults with learning disabilities and their families for over 60 years. We exist to ensure that people with learning disabilities are included in their communities, have equal access to opportunities, and are supported to live safe, fulfilling lives. Our purpose is to reduce disadvantage and social isolation by providing accessible services that promote independence, wellbeing, and inclusion. We work with people who are often excluded from community life, offering them practical support, meaningful activities, and the chance to build lasting friendships. We deliver a wide range of services, including day opportunities, social clubs and respite activities. Our services are designed to help individuals gain confidence, improve their physical and emotional health, and develop greater independence. Families and carers benefit too, with regular respite and the reassurance that their loved ones are safe, engaged, and supported. Above all, our aim is to create a community where people with learning disabilities are respected, valued, and able to achieve their potential. Many of those we support tell us that without St Albans Mencap, they would have little or no social contact at all.
