Recipient Org: Description The Anchor Project is a locally focused community development project committed to responding to the needs of people in our inner-city community, (Bradford postcode 3), regardless of race, faith, age or gender. We work with people over time which is crucial for meeting the long-term needs of our local area. Our core aims are to: • nurture understanding and compassion in our divided community • promote integration (particularly for the most marginalised and stigmatised) • support local needs with helpful, practical assistance for everyday life • create a space where the community learn, achieve, share and grow together • empower local people to take pride in and restore our neglected living environment BD3, on the government index of multiple deprivation, is in the top 10% of most deprived communities in England, with some Local Output Areas falling within the top 2%. Our Integration and Support Worker runs the following projects: BD3CARE: - A weekly (term-time) drop-in for asylum seekers and refugees, welcoming 20 – 30 attendees per week, and 70+ over the year. The group meet in the community room where refreshments, children’s toys, and a craft activity are provided, along with a food bank and clothing bank. One-to-one help is given to those who have additional needs. The one-to-one support inevitably spills over into other office hours due to the high levels of need, e.g. before a case hearing, benefits sanctioning or destitution cases. ELDERS LUNCH CLUB - A weekly activity for elderly residents, with 12-20 attendees per week. Held in the community room, participants, the majority who are isolated and/or have long-term health conditions, enjoy friendship, refreshments, an activity relating to their long-term needs or interests, (e.g.seated exercises, talks on issues such as incontinence, financial help, safety in the home, a musical performance), followed by a hot meal.
