Recipient Org: Description Barkerend is an inner-city area of Bradford that is also, sadly, within the 5% most deprived areas in England. The Neighbourhood Resource Centre (NRC) helps younger and older members of our local community improve their health and wellbeing and bring about positive change in their lives. We do this by providing a variety of services delivered at our multi-purpose community facility, Prestige Hall; an easily accessible venue located close to several local religious establishments. We deliver activities seven days a week, with a break for Ramadan and Christmas, which give younger and older people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in physical activity and wellbeing sessions. Barkerend has a large South Asian community and there is a great need for accessible activities that serve our younger community members (many of whom cannot afford to take part in organised sports), as well as demand for female-only activities. As part of NRC’s regular programme of activities, we run an under-13s football team – Bradford Bengal Tigers FC – which meet every Sunday at Seymour Park, with training on Saturdays. We also run the Bengal Tigers cricket club, as well as boxing and kick-boxing sessions here at Prestige Hall.
