Grant to Moonlight Trust (360G-LeedCF-A532152)

£10,205
Recipient Organization

One of the keys to improving young people’s progression into HE lies in ensuring their parents have the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to successfully enable their children to advance into HE. Our project will therefore facilitate a series of empowering workshops and trainings, done through a drop-in format, for parents and guardians in Harehills.

Recipient Org: Description Moonlight Trust is a BAME-led charity that has been set up to improve the life chances of those who are experiencing deprivation and disadvantage. Founded in the wake of the tragic death of a teenage boy (Moon) who was robbed and killed in Dewsbury Park, the organisation’s local focus is on projects that help people from deprived communities reach their full potential. We work towards this aim by helping our beneficiaries gain employment, learn new skills and reach higher education. We do this primarily through job seeking clubs and social groups. In particular, we run a highly successful job-seeking and employability club in Dewsbury – called ‘Coffee, Cake and Careers’ - that has informed the drop-in style approach to HE support proposed herein. We work predominantly with women from BAME and refugee backgrounds, and have extensive networks in Harehills and Lincoln Green.
