Recipient Org: Description Diocese of Leeds Music strives to make the highest standard of music education and performance opportunities accessible to all children and young people, regardless of background, faith or economic circumstances. In this hugely diverse area we aim to inspire, build confidence, teamwork and leadership skills and advocate self-belief and inclusivity. Established in 2003, our Schools Singing Programme is recognised as the UK’s leading provider of choral singing, reaching 4,500 children weekly (1,000 in Leeds alone), during and outside the school day in 53 state schools across West Yorkshire. Our 18 after-school youth choirs provide superb progression routes for children inspired in whole-class school singing sessions, with regular performances and opportunities to broadcast on BBC radio and television. To date, our Programme has reached over 30,000 young people aged 5-21. We focus on inner-city communities suffering social marginalisation and economic deprivation where children are otherwise unlikely to encounter musical opportunities. There are no special requirements and we share the joy and discipline of choral music together, providing cultural capital, well-being and musical education.
