Recipient Org: Description St George’s Crypt has been an integral part of the benevolent tapestry of Leeds since 1930. Since then, we have provided a lifeline to homeless and vulnerable adults, delivering vital, immediate care and support: hot food, clothing, emergency crisis accommodation and non-judgemental compassion and community. Over the years, we have witnessed, first-hand, that the needs of our service users have become multiple and complex: addiction, poor mental and physical health, learning difficulties, poverty, unemployment and broken families. It became evident that we needed, and were indeed best placed, to develop into a much wider and more transformative service; one which encompassed residential recovery and support and aimed to deal with many more of the issues our clients were facing. Health and well-being sessions, engagement activities and skills training, working towards employability, also needed to be a part of our delivery, as did building confidence, self-esteem and focusing on positive changes – rebuilding broken lives. Our current incarnation includes: our emergency care centre and hostels; residential, addiction recovery programme; supported-living, self-contained flats and, importantly, working in close partnerships across the city, to deliver much needed help. Such partnerships enabled an adaptive approach to the homeless and vulnerable in Leeds during the pandemic.
