Recipient Org: Description Our main aim and objective is providing support to elderly people and their carers through various projects/workshops/ activities/sessions to reduce their isolation, enhance health and well being and improve social opportunities. 40 elders meet together to pursue social, education and leisure interests as well as supporting each other and to gain information on various relevant topics improving their knowledge/access to information/services. Group provides a friendly environment to elderly in culturally sensitive way with given full language support, advocacy support and signposting where relevant. We also arrange informative talks to improve knowledge and confidence so people are aware of other organisations and their services and thus improve self-referrals for further support giving necessary guidance all through the process. Our aim is to Increase social opportunities, participation in activities along with their carers, improving participation, improving mental health and building stronger friendship and neighbourhoods. We mentor and give confidence to local young women to gain skills and knowledge working and volunteering for us and help them to move on to related paid jobs in care homes or home care agencies. We also encourage and support/ mentor/train local retired people to support other frail elderly people as well as facilitating to others for example yoga, chair based, knitting, music. Using our community asset approach we run on small budget and not having huge management cost but still doing very grass root level work embedded and trusted in the community giving opportunities to elders to socialise as well as empowerment.
