Recipient Org: Description The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) protect and restore both people and nature, involving people in their local green spaces benefits the health of individuals and communities through environmental volunteering, social inclusion, learning and much more. TCV has operated from Hollybush Conservation Centre since 1979, when the charity began working closely with disadvantaged communities in the local area in West Leeds. Over the last 45 years, TCV in Leeds has developed a programme of activity that supports people to improve their physical and mental health, overall wellbeing and develop skills through nature-based activities across the city. We work closely with communities to identify innovative ways that we can improve accessibility in nature-based interventions and provide a broad range of activities to suit different needs and interests. From Hollybush, with its multi-habitat gardens and site, we run group-based activity in nature, including conservation volunteering, nature-based health interventions, natural craft activities, adult short courses, gardening, and food growing activities, health walks, woodwork, learning disability support and much more. TCV also operates a site in Stourton in South Leeds which primarily delivers youth activities, with whom we work closely. While these sessions benefit the natural environment, they are also carefully tailored to have the health and wellbeing of those participating in the group activity as the top priority. By supporting people into volunteering activities, our groups destigmatise and improve accessibility for nature-based interventions, with overall health outcomes improved by the reciprocal act of giving.
