Recipient Org: Description Hamara is a community anchor which aims to improve the quality of life for people in Leeds by reducing inequality and disadvantage. For over 25 years, we have delivered transformative services, working hard to improve the lives of people across the city. Although we specialise in working with the South Asian community, our programme of services are open to all and we have a great track record of working across communities to build resilience, health, wellbeing and skills. Hamara provides support for people of all ages, communities and backgrounds, operating from our popular community centre. Our comprehensive programme of community services includes information, advice and guidance, training and education, mental health support, youth activities, sport, health and exercise, day services and support for people with learning disabilities. On average, we engage with 5000 people from across Leeds every year. In most cases, these are individuals experiencing high levels of deprivation and poverty. We have extensive experience in delivering mental health services which have a genuine impact. Examples include delivering anti-stigma work, low level mental health support and pre-employment support to people with mental health problems. We have also developed wellbeing programmes which include activities such as gardening sessions and conversation cafes. Furthermore, last year, our HEROES programme, which we run together with the NHS, is now delivering its 5th cohort and improving mental health through mentoring, social groups and peer support. We were recently awarded GSK Impact Award for our work tackling inequalities: https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/projects/gsk/2024-gsk-impact-award-winners
