Recipient Org: Description Afrikindness, a registered non-profit organization, is committed to nurturing positive racial identity development and fostering the social-emotional development of children and young people, particularly those who have been racially marginalized, socially and culturally excluded. Our overall objective is to enable these individuals to reach their full potential as individuals and as members of society. Currently run by passionate volunteers, Afrikindness provides impactful programs, including parent training, children's academies, and community engagement initiatives. We have 4 workstreams that work collaboratively to support communities in Leeds. The education workstream, led by UK teachers, creates inclusive content for schools, focusing on Identity in children and young people. Launched in October 2023, this campaign fosters an inclusive educational environment. The parent workstream conducts informative sessions, webinars, and daily drop-in support for parents from diverse communities, providing expert views to balance cultural nuances. The parent training is designed to equip parents with tools to support their children through positive parenting practices. The program aims to address the growing need for parenting support among parents from diverse communities in Leeds, and Yorkshire. Simultaneously, our children's team supports social-emotional development through mentoring and training sessions, empowering racially marginalized young people. The research team bridges the gap between community and research, exploring areas like racial identity crisis, social profiling, neurodiversity, and mental health - contributing valuable insights to education, mental health, and neurodiversity. In essence, Afrikindness, through its collaborative workstreams, strives to create a positive impact on children, parents, and communities in Leeds, fostering resilience, inclusion, and emotional well-being.
