REMEMBERING THE WATERS: CO-CREATING KENYA’S MARITIME AND INLAND-WATER SAFETY HERITAGE ARCHIVE FOR EQUITY, MEMORY, AND FUTURE TRANSITIONS (360G-LloydsRegisterFdn-H-100044)

£143,413

Remembering the Waters will create Kenya’s first national archive dedicated to maritime and inland-water safety heritage. We will document past ferry and boat disasters, everyday safety experiences, community knowledge from coastal, lake regions, ensuring lives lost and lessons learned are not forgotten. Working with heritage institutions, safety agencies, local communities, we will co-create an open digital archive that shares stories, images, safety insights in accessible ways. By linking memory with safety learning, project will support safer water transport in Kenya and offer a model for other countries seeking to place safety, equity, community voices at the heart of blue-economy transitions.
