Understanding the Engineering Capability and Capacity Gaps in Sierra Leone (360G-LloydsRegisterFdn-Sg13-100344)

This project will produce the first comprehensive, empirical assessment of Sierra Leone's engineering capability and capacity gaps. Using a mixed-methods approach – quantitative and qualitative – the study will identify specific deficits in technical skills, safety standards, and regulatory enforcement. The methodology will include a quantitative survey of 200+ engineering firms and public sector bodies, qualitative interviews with 30 key stakeholders, and geospatial mapping of critical infrastructure. Jointly delivered by Fourah Bay College (academic rigor) and Afrovate Tech Hub (data innovation), this pilot will establish a replicable model for evidence-based engineering policy in sub-Saharan Africa.
