Recipient Org: Description | Royal & Derngate is the main centre for arts and entertainment in Northamptonshire. We have a strong commitment to making high quality work that co-creates with our communities and is accessed and recognised nationally. We have an incredible Creative Learning Department which provides extensive Youth Theatre, career pipeline opportunities and Adult Community activities and events. As a registered charity, we remain ambitious about ensuring that our theatres are for everyone. Our aims are to provide opportunities to engage with our community, to listen and hear what our community needs and to tell their stories on our stages. We also encourage young people to take part in our creative learning opportunities via bespoke schools partnerships and projects, and weekly activity at the theatres. For our wider community, we provide valuable cultural experiences through weekly groups, produced and presented programming and opportunities for community groups to be hosted at the venue. We are committed to enabling as many people as possible to enjoy performances at Royal & Derngate. As well as providing adapted shows for our audiences with certain access needs, we also recognise that it is just as important for us to be prepared for when customers with additional specific needs visit us. This include providing a programme of Relaxed Performances, Touch Tours, Audio Description and BSL Interpreters and Captioning for productions. Royal & Derngate’s artist development programme Generate is a key strand of the theatre's work and shows our commitment to supporting the work and the development of artists. Since 2012 the programme has supported over 6000 artists with opportunities including rehearsal and performance space, mentorship, scratch opportunities, masterclasses, funding, networking, placements, ticket offers and special one off events, commissions and the annual Gen Fest festival of new and developing work. Royal & Derngate serves as a cultural centre for Northampton and a leading regional theatre, serving its local audiences and communities in terms of both artistic and financial contribution to the town, and contributing to the wider cultural ecology of the UK. |
