Recipient Org: Description Volunteer Action is a community minded local charity that helps to improve the lives of local people in need. We provide a Community Transportation Scheme, 1:1 Befriending Service and Group Befriending activities to older people aged 65 years plus and those who are mobility restricted living in North East Northamptonshire. We serve a large, rural community from Thrapston in the South, through Oundle, then up to Easton-on-the-Hill in the North and the 50 villages in the surrounding areas. We have been collaborating with other VCSE services in and around the Corby borders to help provide activities to those most in need of company and support to reduce isolation. Our aims are to reach and support as many service users in our locations with community transportation to provide them with timely health and mental wellbeing support through the NHS and other private groups. We are passionate about connecting rural communities and in turn - sourcing new volunteers to provide them with the confidence to utilise their life experience and skill set to lead group activities and in turn making friends and finding a sustainable purpose later in life. About partner - Green Patch - The Green Patch, our thriving community garden project, is Groundwork’s flagship green space – used and enjoyed by local people, schools, community groups and organisations. Our 2.5-acre site, based the edge of the Grange Housing Estate in Kettering, hosts volunteer days, children’s clubs, education sessions and family events. We have ducks, chickens and rabbits. We are open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays (10am-2pm), have a grass paddock and play areas, veggie boxes, wildlife orchards, ponds, beehives and bee friendly garden.
