Recipient Org: Description Al's Pals is a compassionate, volunteer-led charity founded in 2020 in memory of Alan Dumbell. Our primary mission is to ensure that no one faces cancer alone by providing emotional and practical support to patients and their families. Our core aims and objectives include: Reducing Isolation: Providing companionship to those who may feel lonely or vulnerable during their cancer journey. Enhancing Wellbeing: Offering a safe space for individuals to talk about their challenges, thereby improving emotional resilience. Bridging the Gap: Acting as a lifeline between clinical medical treatment and mental health support. We provide these services across Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Milton Keynes, and Bedfordshire. Our key activities include: Hospital Support: Trained volunteers provide daily companionship and reassurance to patients undergoing treatment at hospitals, such as Milton Keynes University Hospital, helping to ease the anxiety of attending appointments alone. In-Home Support: For those unable to leave their homes, volunteers provide regular visits to offer company, a listening ear, and practical help with everyday challenges. Community Connection & Peer Support: We facilitate support groups and peer networks to help individuals feel understood by others with similar lived experiences. Support for Families: Our services extend to families and carers from the point of diagnosis through to eight weeks after bereavement, providing information and resources to help them navigate the complexities of a cancer diagnosis.
