Moving Away Your Dust: Bicentenary of the Grosvenor Canal 1824-2024 (360G-NLHF-HA-23-00013)

£74,418

2024 marks the bicentenary of the Grosvenor Canal, which played a vital role in Westminster's waste management until 1995. Our project will tell the story of rubbish over two centuries with the aim of engaging with our local community to highlight the very real issues that we face in the present. To achieve our aim we will recreate the canal as it was in 1851 in 3DVR, train Y6 pupils at Burdett Coutts primary school to make an oral history film, work with autistic young people from College Park school and Y6 pupils at St Francis of Assisi school by Grenfell Tower to make two animated films that highlight the deep anxieties that rubbish posed to our Victorian ancestors. We will celebrate these outcomes through a film-screening at the BFI(July) and end our project with a musical show with 8 schools in November telling the story of dustman Ernest Boots.
