Peel Tower Conditions Project (360G-NLHF-HA-24-00930)

By the end of this project, we will have shared details about Peel Tower with many more people. We will also have a clear, and costed, plan for restoring the historic monument. The tower stands 128 feet high on Holcombe Hill overlooking Bury where the politician and founder of the Metropolitan Police Force, Sir Robert Peel, was born. It attracts thousands of visitors. However, it is in need of urgent repairs to walls, doors, and windows. The surrounding landscape also needs improvement. The current condition of the tower means that it is rarely open, and is at risk of developing more serious issues too. For this project, we want to work alongside heritage experts who can conduct the conditions surveys needed to help us (and the people who volunteer at the tower) establish exactly what repairs are needed, what priority work areas are, and what the costs will be.
