Primary beneficiary Children and Young People
Recipient Org: Charity Number 1171054
Recipient Org: Description To act as a resource for vulnerable young people (aged 14-21) living in Oxfordshire by providing a structured and challenging youth group programme. Weekly meetings over 12-18 month include education, personal development, team work and fund raising. This culminates in an accompanied trip to Western Kenya to volunteer with Nasio Trust projects for disadvantaged children. This programme was originally developed by Nasio Trust but is now a separate charity so that the focus is entirely on providing a resource for vulnerable young people in Oxfordshire. Young people are expected to be involved in the development of their programme and to take a lead in fund raising events and in their chosen Kenyan project. There have been two groups in Berinsfield, two in Blackbird Leys and one in Faringdon so far involving 57 young people. On returning from Kenya, the young people are asked to reflect on their extraordinary experiences and, with the support of YoCO expert volunteers on the 'YoCO Works' programme, to take the next steps in education or employment. Young people are strongly encouraged to remain involved in the charity and 6 will be enrolled on the Youth Leadership course run by Oxfordshire Youth in March 2019.
