Recipient Org: Description 1. History. The club was founded in 1907 and is affiliated to Bowls England and Somerset Bowls Association.In 2016 it selected as the West Regional Club Champions of England by Bowls England and 2017 won the Bowls Tour Excellence Award for the county. 2. Aims The club is open to all members of the public regardless of age, sex and disability. Free coaching lessons are offered. The club attempts to foster a warm, friendly environment so that all members feel they are part of a family/community. This is greatly enhanced by the work of a strong active and well-organised Social committee. 3. Management. This operates on a two-tier administration system comprising of an Executive committee ( Chairman,Secretary,Treasurer,Development Officer and Ladies administrator) Two sub-committees feed into the Executive, these being the General Committee and the Think-Tank. These second tier groups contain Fixtures, Membership, Winter and Indoor Secretaries, Ladie’s, Men’s and Mixed Team captains( covering playing operations), Bar Steward, Estate Manager, Greenkeeper, General Maintenance, Welfare and Child protection officers, Catering Officer, a Social Team representative, Think tank representative. All the committees operate within a written formally adopted Constitution which conforms to Bowls England Rules and Regulations. The Constitution is regularly reviewed and updated and supplied to all members. The club also has a strict non-smoking policy throughout its premises. 4.Facilities. The Club adjoins the Sports and Leisure Centre and Wellington Rugby Club. It has an outdoor playing area of 38 sq m which consists of six rinks that can accommodate a maximum of 48 players at one time. It also has an single Indoor rink which is available all year around. The Clubhouse has a function room, Kitchen,Changing Rooms, together with Ladie’s,Men’s and recently refurbished Disabled Toilet. There is also a garage housing green maintenance equipment and an outside store shed for outdoor rink playing equipment. 5.Membership. The club has a current mixed membership of around 240 comprising of 134 members playing outdoors inthe summer-whilst 180 make use of the indoor facilities in the winter months. Social members are either retired from playing, partners of current players, or friends of both categories. The Summer Outdoor, starts from May to September the club enters teams, 1 Ladies and 3 theMen’s League teams playing venues across Somerset and Devon involving nine teams a week in total. The club also contests 64 friendly matches on a home and away basis. We also regularly host County matches on a home and away basis and provided a venue for the Disabled Regional Singles Finals. During the week there are dedicated Roll-up slots and Monday evenings are designated as Club Night, both these activities are extremely well attended . Indoor Rink Use. The indoor rink is available to play on all year round but seesmost of its activity in the winter months, where 5 leagues consisting of 33 teams compete at all times of the day. There is also 10 dedicated Roll-up slots, 3 of which are exclusively reserved for beginners . The utilisation levels for rink use-age for Monday-Friday is 93% and Weekends is 65%. 6. The Future. The Club has produced a Development plan already sent . It is a visionary document that encapsulates a number of areas that is important to address the Clubs stability, sustainability and longevity. It also updates a list of Activities and Achievements at the Club since 2015 to the present day, this document has also been sent. a) Recruitment. This area includes a well organised and funded recruitment programme to offset natural wastage.This is achieved by attending local events to encourage members of the public to try bowling and attend taster sessions and take up the offer of free coaching. This naturally raises the Club’s local profile. b) Retention. We concentrate on retention by making sure that new bowlers find the game an enjoyable experience by ensuring a balance between practice, structured Roll-ups, and friendly matches. c) Social interaction is further promoted by the organising of social events throughout the year. d) Volunteers. Actively encourage members to become volunteers who have existing skills, without the effort of volunteers, Clubs would find it difficult to survive. e) Strategic Partners. We have to build on and maintain strong relationships with our Strategic Partnerswho provide valuable information, support, expertise and knowledge of available grants for external funding. f) Finance. Concentrate on having a solid and stable financial base that operates on a open, accountable and transparent behaviour. 736. words
