Recipient Org: Description | Radio Ninesprings is a not-for-profit educational charitable company run by volunteers based in Yeovil. In November 2017, the charity was awarded an FM community radio license by Ofcom to provide a service of community radio to Yeovil and South Somerset. Radio Ninesprings has its studio in Yeovil (opposite Tesco) and plans to begin live broadcasting by September 2018. The aims of Radio Ninesprings are: To strengthen the community spirit and identity of Yeovil and South Somerset To provide young people with opportunities to volunteer and create campaigns to highlight the concerns and aspirations of young people To support economic development To bring social gain through training and enhance the life chances of young people Our training has created a pool of trained young people to compete for work across the media sector. It has provided an important start-up experience for young people planning their own businesses in sound engineering, video/film/social media/TV production. Most recently, Radio Ninesprings completed an Oral History project celebrating 100 years of Westland Helicopters in Yeovil funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Students at Yeovil College and former Westland employees worked together on the project and a website of the oral histories was created: www.westland100.org.uk |
