Recipient Org: Description | We aim as a Friends of the Park Group to support the current district council and its contractors with small scale maintenance works, promoting activities for local people in the park and pavilion, working with others as sporting groups/schools/housing providers/police etc to Make the park a positive place. Our current activities include Monthly meat bingo sessions and committee meetings, Park works volunteering on Tuesdays, craft club on Thursdays, coffee mornings and Pavilion Community use by others includes Taunton Carnival Committee and Knightstone Housing. We have an annual Summer Fair on 14th July 2018. Our base is a dual pyramid sports pavilion where we have taken on an unused former Cricket Tea Room as a Community space. We also carry out some just outside the park works to pavements and landscaped areas. We have campaigned for refurbed public toilets immediately adjoining the community space in our 1980s pavilion including carrying out a £2,400 feasibility study in 2016, see examples of drawings in attachments. The building and surrounding fields are owned by TDBC at present but we are subject to a council merger.. They could belong next to coming new Somerset West DC, a local parish, a town council or even a new Unitary authority soon. TDBC are progressing new unusual sports on the field but major building refurb is at least two years away.. We have no parish precept but a higher proportion of ethnic minorities in the homes around our town centre park.. |
