Recipient Org: Description The aims and objectives of Reminiscence Learning are to (a) relieve the needs of people with a dementia through the provision of reminiscence therapy; and (b) to educate the families of people with a dementia and health care workers about reminiscence therapy. We seek to achieve our aims and objectives by providing (1) specialist training experience for three main areas within the care industry: dementia, reminiscence and activities; (2) the Archie Project, an inter-generational dementia awareness project that links primary schools, care homes, sheltered housing schemes, business/services and community members to ultimately create dementia friendly communities; and (3) Activity Angels to visit Care Homes or Day Centres to facilitate a range of activities for residents with a dementia, such as 'Flexercise', cooking, life story work, reminiscing, armchair travel, music and fun, and arts and crafts. A dedicated team of people work together to ensure that all training courses are prepared and delivered in a professional and educational way yet are fun, practical and thought provoking with comprehensive resource files and certificate. Activity Angels are trained to facilitate either group sessions or on a 1-1 basis. We also deliver innovative Forest School working with adults with early onset dementia, who tend to more active, and young people not in Education, Employment or Training (ie. NEETs). In addition to the above, we organise a number of promotional events to raise awareness about dementia, such as this year's multi-cultural day, 2017's Archie's Record Breaking Birthday Party in Vivary Park, Taunton, which attracted hundreds of families and individuals dressed as scarecrows, many of who had no direct experience of dementia. In 2019 we're planning a week long series of activities around dementia in Wellington.
