Recipient Org: Description The Footprints Project was set up in 2004 by an individual who had been released from HMP Dorchester. Our aim is to address the social isolation of offenders, reduce reoffending and improve life chances by supporting individuals (in an emotional and practical way) to identify and pursue their personal goals. Our mentoring service targets individuals leaving prison or those serving a community sentence, meeting with them prior to and on release from prison. Some of our mentors and staff are ex-offenders. Individuals can volunteer at our training project Life Works, which offers an opportunity to gain work and life skills: such as decorating, grounds work, up cycling furniture, budgeting, community and family relationship building. A service user sits on Life Works steering group. We have a women specific service: with a dedicated team of female staff and mentors that are specifically trained and focused on engagement and holistic support of women ex-offenders. 60% involved in Footprints are volunteers from local communities. We are community facing, and volunteer led, using community bases which are more accessible and efficient, rather than setting up local offices. Reaching over 250 ex-offenders each year, in the next 12 months, 120 these will be women.
