Recipient Org: Description | bibic deliver assessments and developmental therapy for children/young people with learning and physical disabilities, special educational needs, genetic conditions and developmental difficulties. Our core work is a two day assessment at our Somerset centre, during which we carry out tests/observations, listening carefully as parents describe their challenges. Therapists develop a bespoke therapeutic plan using a holistic blend of sensory, cognitive, developmental and physical exercises/strategies that address their specific, often complex, needs. We train parents/carers to deliver therapy, introducing therapies to keep pace with development and providing long-term, intensive support. We support the whole family not just the child, reducing stress/isolation and improving family cohesion. Children's challenges and negative behaviours intensified due to Covid restrictions. Many are more aggressive, harming themselves/others; depressed/anxious and regressed developmentally. Many families have experienced severe loneliness/feel unable to cope. We quickly adapted services to video call, including our full assessment, and increased additional support. From July we gradually reopened our centre, whilst maintaining digital services for shielded children, those further afield/in tier three and those who feel uncomfortable to visit. Therapies have had a notable increased focus on reducing anxiety, coping with change, sensory processing. |
