Recipient Org: Description We are a village recreation centre that provides recreation facilities for the local community, most of whom are over 65 years of age. Our facilities comprise of a sports hall, separate function hall, kitchen toilets and recreation field. Over the last 6 - 7 years we have established a croquet club, table tennis club and badminton group. Prior to lockdown these were well supported weekly activities with the croquet played indoors during the winter and outside on 2 lawns during the spring and summer months. The function hall is used by CLOWNS for regular family pre-school play sessions as well as other groups for dancing, band practice and family parties. During normal times the management committee organises a monthly fundraising event from community coffee mornings, Christmas craft fair, village breakfasts to quiz nights, flea markets and barn dances. Two years ago, as part of the Recreation Centre a parish heritage centre was established and during 2019 it reguarly opened on a Tuesday afternoon for visitors to view the exhibitions on display. Three exhibitions were staged during 2019 and involved an opening talk by a visiting speaker and covered topics of Iron Age smelting carried out in the village, Village historial stories and Orchards,Apples and Cider Making. A full programme of events was planned for 2020 which has been postponed and will now hopefully take place during 2022. The most important thing achieved during 2020 is that we have survived as a functioning community facility and during lockdowns full use has been made of the recreation field by residents and visitors of all ages. During the last year our team of volunteers have kept the field in pristine condition enabling it to be well used by family and friends to walk and exercise together, family birthday picnics have also taken place on the field and a welcoming green space for all to enjoy has been maintained. Although the building has been used to a small degree it is the recreation field that has shone like a beacon in the community during this very grey period.
