The number of Somerset families who cannot afford a contribution towards therapy costs remains high. We need fee waiver funds to ensure we never turn away families in crisis.

Recipient Org: Description bibic deliver assessments and developmental therapy for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs. We passionately believe every child deserves to reach their full potential, contribute to society and live a happy life. Parents come to us in crisis; many do not have a diagnosis, cannot get anyone to listen and fall between the cracks of statutory support. Our core work is a two day assessment. We carry out tests/observations with the child and listen carefully as their difficulties are described. We develop an individualised therapeutic plan using a holistic blend of sensory, cognitive, developmental and physical exercises and strategies that address their specific, often complex, needs. We train and empower parents to become the therapist at home, monitor progress over at least 6 months (often years), introduce therapies to keep pace with development and provide long-term intensive support. We support the whole family not just the child; reducing stress, isolation and improving family cohesion. Other services include screeners for specific conditions; assessments for wellbeing, behaviour, sensory processing and development; telephone support line; and training seminars for parents and professionals. We provide detailed reports to help families access support from local authorities, the NHS and schools.
