Recipient Org: Description Wincanton Community Venture, operating as the Balsam Centre, exists to improve the health and quality of life of the people of Wincanton and the surrounding area. We cover a large rural area of approximately 250 square miles (population of 30,000). Our mission is to help people in our community meet their health, social and employment goals and aspirations and reduce health and social inequalities. We offer groups for all ages, from babies to older people. Our activities include family support, adult and youth counselling, young carers group, Men’s Shed, dementia Café, maternal mental health, cooking groups, health and buggy walks, and many more. The Centre is also a venue for local community groups, has an onsite community nursery, partners with The Growing Space, a social and therapeutic horticulture project and is a hub for Citizens’ Advice and SIDAS (Somerset Integrated Domestic Abuse Service).
