Recipient Org: Description | The Base is a state of the art indoor skate park with 8,500 sqft of wooden ramps designed for all indoor extreme sports, including rollerskating, scooting, BMXing and rollerblading - the only one of its kind for 70 miles. Located in the socially deprived area of Bognor Regis, this facility is a lifeline for the community, as well as being a vital training facility for young professionals, recently breeding the World Number 1 Scooter Champion. We exist to provide a safe environment for all to practice their skills, with a teaching platform to protect against avoidable injuries and encourage a positive sporting attitude. We have a lovely café with full viewing gallery for spectators and parents to enjoy, as well as a shop selling bike/scooter parts and The Base brand of merchandise. Founder, Janina Cooper, was one of the hordes of parents at outdoor skateparks for hours in bad weather, witnessing horrific accidents on concrete, no first aid and young children exposed to unwholesome behaviour by older youths. She vowed to build a safe, friendly community facility/sustainable business enterprise to benefit and educate professional riders, give young people in the area something to do and Bognor to be proud of. |
