Recipient Org: Description | ARRCC provides day services and an independent living 'outreach' service to adults with physical and sensory impairments, the elderly, those living with dementia and their carers. We have two day centres in Rye, one for older people, with an average age of 85 and the second centre, based at Rye Creative Centre, is for younger people aged 25 to 70 years old. We offer learning opportunities, cooking, creative writing, music therapy, vocal workshops, counselling, regular visits to the gym, health walks and outings. We have a vibrant arts department. Volunteer artists from the Creative Centre assist our tutors by giving one to one tuition to our members. Members are able to learn new skills leading to improved confidence and self esteem. The elderly and disabled can become extremely socially isolated, particularly when living in rural communities. Providing the opportunity to meet in a day service setting enables friendships to develop, taking our members shopping and enabling them to make their own purchases helps maintain their independence and feeling of self worth . We provide transport to the Centre, regular outings, and take members shopping. Our dedicated transport is a necessity; the majority of our clients live in local villages, and because of their health and disabilities, public transport and community transport is often unable to cope with their complex needs. Our drivers understand the complex needs of our members and always go to great lengths to assist them. Carers are able to join in activities, however, by knowing their partner/relative is in safe hands and able to maintain some independence is greatly reassuring, and enables the carer to maintain their own independence. |
