Recipient Org: Description Sew Fabulous CIC is a sewing studio in Brighton’s multicultural Open Market. We are located in an area of high disadvantage and deprivation where 36% of children live in poverty. This is in the 5.3% most deprived LSOA in the UK Sew Fabulous CIC has been running for four years providing training opportunities and workshops in sewing techniques and through that the development of life skills and increased community cohesion. The aims of sew fabulous are: • To provide sewing classes and workshops to the local community regardless of their economic or social circumstances. • To promote the reuse and recycling of fabrics and clothing as an antidote to fast fashion. • To be a positive force for change in our city and to promote an inclusive environment for all. We meet our aims through our targeted outreach program that seeks to empower people living in economically deprived areas who are facing marginalisation, deprivation and social problems. The aims of our outreach program are: 1 to provide affordable, inclusive and accessible beginners sewing class for adults who are experiencing social and economic disadvantage in Brighton & Hove (or neighbourhood specific). 2 to support participants to develop life skills and confidence through the provision of a structured programme and support. Our trainers bring a range of practical sewing and community development skills. We run workshops and training for socially and economically disadvantaged adults and young people. Currently we offer a weekly timetable of: Funded courses for local unemployed or very low waged adults. Two secondary aged after school classes. Two primary school aged after school classes. One adults’ weekly class. One adults pattern cutting class. Sewing socials (very low cost drop in sessions). One off specialist workshops including family friendly holiday activities.
