Recipient Org: Charity Number 1164415.0
Recipient Org: Description Trinity Centre's aims are to address the debilitating effects of social isolation on older, vulnerable people in Whitby and its surrounding rural district. As a day centre, open 3 days per week, we provide a forum where older people (a proportion of whom are living with dementia) to remain socially connected and to maintain identity and self worth and at the same time to engage in meaningful activity that help them to maintain memory, physical, creative and cognitive function and thereby a sense of purpose and wellbeing. The centre gives respite to families and carers as they are not expected to attend with our clients. Many of our clients depend on the Centre for social contact and we work closely with organisations such as Community Transport to resolve issues such as mobility. The relaxed social contact over a hot meal is an important feature of our clients' day. Morning and afternoon sessions engage them in a range of themed projects such as music, arts, crafts, history, etc. that help to retain function and which we can also showcase to raise awareness in the community that ageing or dementia do not negate usefulness, validity or the ability to contribute to society. We work closely with NYCC and surgeries, Alzheimers Society to share expertise and to ensure that appropriate referrals are made. Some clients are funded by NYCC, some pay a contribution towards running costs. Working with an increasingly ageing and less mobile client base, we find that our staff:client ratio is becoming tighter. This has an adverse effect on our funding, leaving us highly dependent on fundraising, donations and grants to cover costs.

Recipient Org: Charity Number 1164415
Recipient Org: Description Our aims are to address the debilitating effects of social isolation on older, vulnerable people, including those living with dementia. Normally open 3 days/week, we provide older people with a forum to remain socially connected and maintain identity and self-worth. Engaging them in meaningful activity helps them to sustain memory, physical, creative and cognitive function and thereby a sense of purpose and wellbeing. Research shows that engagement of this nature can reverse the pathway to frailty and help older people to remain independence in their homes for longer. We provide respite to families and carers, who are not expected to attend with our clients. We work closely with statutory agencies and with key partners such as Alzheimers Society, Caring Together, Whitby and Disabled Action Group. We draw in local expertise, artists, creative writers, etc. to support specific projects and engagement with the community. During pandemic, we have strengthened our networks for the mutual benefit of our collective client base. We have been advised that our service-users should remain in social isolation for the foreseeable future, which will exacerbate the risks of associated decline. Clients' own feedback demonstrates the positive impact of previous funding from Two Ridings Foundation: ‘It’s such a treat. I didn’t expect anything. i thought I would be on my own at home with nothing to do and I’m busy all day with the activities.’ ‘I love the phone calls. We have such a good chat. I know they’re doing it to cheer me up and it works.’ ‘I know it’s you ringing because you’re the only person who rings me.’ ‘I keep a notebook by the telephone so I can write down anything I want to talk about and anything I want to ask you.’ One was reduced to tears, having spoken to no-one for a week.
