Recipient Org: Description Our charity was founded in 1982 with the aim of alleviating loneliness and isolation amongst older people (60+) who live alone in the Harrogate District. There are two main strands to our work: • the Befriending Service; and • our programme of outings and activities. With a team of three part-time staff and over 90 volunteers, managed by a board of trustees, we currently support more than 220 older people in the Harrogate District. Many of these join in with our monthly group activities: Tea and Talk for 40 people at the Crown Hotel, a singing group for 20 people at St. Peter’s Church, and outings, with an average of 12 people each time. The outings use an accessible minibus and range from local lunch and theatre trips to full days at the seaside. In 2019 we took over the running of a volunteer-led weekly exercise group for 20 older people in Harrogate at the Harlow Hill Community Centre, and we feel this both complements our existing activity programme and brings new people to our activities. We also successfully piloted a monthly Dining Out Club in independent Harrogate restaurants. Up to 16 people now attend regularly, and the initiative encourages group friendships whilst supporting local businesses. We also signpost people to other organisations from which they may benefit. We have particularly strong links with Dementia Forward, Age UK, HELP and the Visual Impairment Centre, as well as the North Yorkshire Health and Adult Services Living Well and Community Teams;
