Recipient Org: Description We are establishing a men's shed for the Ripon area. Its primary object is to tackle social isolation and loneliness within our general community and especially amongst older retired men. The Shed will be a place where people can recover from this awful Covid period and will help build strong supportive relationships across our different groups of beneficiaries from different communities in the Ripon area. It will be where people can meet, talk, work together and share their concerns and difficulties in a mutually supportive environment. It will help address the wider community in providing a safe space for socially-isolated people to gain friends and confidence through having fun whilst producing something worthwhile. Through various Open day meetings pre Covid we have established a database of around 50 local people needing such a place to go in Ripon, and we have also received expressions of interest to use the Shed from the local YMCA, British Legion, Living Well and the NHS. One of our members, Tony, said "Since my wife died I sit alone at home - I'm so looking forward to coming down to the Shed with the guys." That really sums up our primary objective.
