Young GAME Changers (GAME stands for Great Acts Make Engaged) (360G-WCF-A546026)

The Abingdon Damascus Youth Project works on disadvantaged estates in Abingdon, Drayton, Appleford, Milton, Sutton Courtenay and Steventon. It enables young people, aged 10-20 years, to realise their potential and make a positive difference within their own communities. Funding is towards running costs for The Young Game Changers project to engage young people in local decision making. COVID19 update – The aim is to start during the lockdown, building on current online work which includes 1:1 support, videos on activities (e.g. food), workshops (e.g. on cannabis CHC being sold locally that look like sweets). Using Instagram and Facebook depending on the age group, they are running a daily live session in each community.

Recipient Org: Description We support young people to realise their full potential by providing empathetic but empowering support and opportunities, so that they build their resilience and self-efficacy. Work focuses on developing social-emotional skills, attitudes towards self, school and others and fosters a sense of belonging in the wider community. Recognizing the range of support required, our activities are: 1.Grassroots Street Work: builds trusting relationships on young people’s terms and space; fosters community engagement; early needs analyses to design bespoke preventative interventions. 2.One to one mentoring: provides a trusting and non-judgemental space to explore personal drivers; owning actions; taking responsibility; support with adverse life experiences. 3.Weekly social drop ins: responsible and respectful social interactions. 4.Issue-based focused group work: empowering to make informed decisions; positive street conversations. 5.Well-being: young-people led sports, arts, music projects. 6.Train Young Community Leaders: targets disengaged ‘movers and shakers’ so that their appetite for peer adoration is sated with responsible and positive role modelling. 7.Job/study/training/money management support: 8.Inter-generational community events: increases cohesion; builds a strong supportive community around young people 9.School and Multi-agency links: holistic support for young people As an AQA-accredited centre we award certificates recognized by employers.
