Recipient Org: Description Age UK Wiltshire’s range of services enable older people to access the help they need to continue to live independently, remain active and healthy and maintain a sense of social connection.  Through promoting the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our community, our work aims to support our clients to maintain choice and control over their lives.   With our people-centred approach based on listening to our community, the delivery of our services on a wrap-around basis, reflects the interconnected relationship between the challenges associated with ageing. Through providing free, impartial and confidential information and advice on every aspect of later life, the expertise of our dedicated staff and volunteers has, to date in the current financial year, helped over 3000 clients to resolve problems and queries. By enabling older people to access the benefits and grants they often do not realise they are entitled to, our advisers aim to ensure clients experiencing financial insecurity can keep warm, buy fresh food, pay for unexpected items of expenditure and afford the occasional treats they deserve. For those struggling to manage independently at home, the delivery of advice re care and support options, home adaptations, local services etc. helps clients to access the help and resources they need to cope day to day. With having sufficient income and living in their own homes, positively affecting the ability of our community to remain socially active, a link to our Wellbeing Programme ensures clients who are isolated or struggling with feelings of loneliness receive the tailored support they need. By working with older people to identify what might be causing their loneliness, helping them to set goals and encouraging and supporting them to attend social groups, our Wellbeing team offer a helping hand, equipping clients with the confidence needed to mix with others and become reintegrated into their communities. For those who may find it difficult to leave their homes, our telephone befrienders, who are carefully matched with clients and currently call approximately 150 people each week, offer regular and ongoing companionship. Through structuring conversations to incorporate achievable targets, such as reading a book or planting some seeds, and following up on progress, our befrienders aim to instil clients with a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Our Fitness and Friendship Clubs, which take place on a fortnightly basis in 12 locations across the County, provide opportunity for older people to access opportunity to remain active, whilst enjoying spending time with others. Through using carefully planned exercise programmes and group games and activities, the sessions aim to promote the mobility and core strength and balance of participants, positively impacting their ability to manage daily tasks and get out and about – and reducing their risk of falling. With plenty of time for midway refreshments and chat, during which friendships flourish, laughter and fun are never in short supply at the volunteer led sessions, which are promoted across our range of services. With age no barrier to continuing to lead meaningful and fulfilled lives, Age UK Wiltshire represents the first port of call in Wiltshire for older people experiencing problems and we remain committed to delivering high quality, targeted and effective solutions, on behalf of our community.
