The Roundhouse. (360G-Wellcome-073653_Z_03_Z)

£2,540,000

The Roundhouse The historical Roundhouse in Camden Town is one of the most extraordinary buildings in Britain. Originally built as a railway maintenance shed in the 1840's, it was used as a bonded warehouse for 100 years by Gilbey's Gin before becoming a landmark music and performance art venue during the 60's and 70's. In 1996 the site was rescued by local businessman Torquil Norman and together with a team of leading cultural and educational advisors, he has developed plans to establish a centre for creative activity and learning and a performance venue of international standing. The Roundhouse Trust was set up in May 1998 to: Give excluded young people from all backgrounds the facilities, training and opportunities to develop skills and improve employability in the growth cultural industries. Meet demand for an accessible and adaptable venue attracting the finest international productions and performers and to widen access to its artistic programme with full accessibility, subsidised ticket schemes and an effective outreach programme. Restore the grade II* listed Roundhouse, helping neighbourhood renewal by bringing an underused, semi-derelict building back in to economic life, establishing it once again as a source of community focus and pride.
