A Cultural History of Cancer in Early Modern England (360G-Wellcome-093090_Z_10_Z)
The project examines the 'cultural history' of cancer during the early modern period. Specific questions to be asked include: How was cancer categorised and diagnosed? How did understandings of cancer relate to gender roles and sexuality? How was cancer thought to be related to personal morality? How did cancer affect patients', medical practitioners' and the public's view of medical 'progress'? To what extent was interest in cancer a product of or spur to, increase in invasive medical procedures and surgery?
