Stratified medicine in Type 2 diabetes: Insights from the study of drug response. (360G-Wellcome-102820_Z_13_Z)
1. What are the clinical, biochemical and genomic characteristics associated with variation in glycaemic and non-glycaemic (e.g. weight change; lipid change) effects of diabetes drugs? 2. What are the mechanisms for variation in response and adverse reaction to diabetes drugs? I propose to address these research questions by harnessing outstanding pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenomics population resources that I have helped to create. I will use my experience in clinical physiology t o perform detailed metabolic phenotyping of patients selected by extreme phenotype or by genotype or biomarker.
