“Bring together teams from multiple scientific disciplines who work together identifying, solving and translating solutions to complex multi-factorial challenges” The Wellcome EPSRC Centre for Medical Engineering, hosted by King’s, aims to improve human health through research and innovation in engineering and related disciplines. It is a truly multidisciplinary Centre, bringing together expertise in engineering, physics, chemistry, artificial intelligence and computer science with excellence in clinical research across neurology, oncology, and cardiovascular disease. This approach enables the formation of multidisciplinary teams to address major challenges in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Centre ensures a high degree of synergy and cross-talk between programmes (for example applying motion correction from cardiovascular to brain imaging), alongside the provision of core infrastructure and capabilities (e.g. in software engineering, regulatory expertise). The Centre also acts as a beacon to attract academic talent and industry partners, with strategic partnerships including Siemens Healthineers, Medtronic and Nvidia. The proposed extension will continue to support the Centre’s vision and create a platform for developing and exploiting new emerging technologies that will shape the next 10 years of our collective multidisciplinary research programmes.
