Girl Untitled (360G-Wellcome-210615_Z_18_Z)

£100,000

[Proposal Attached] GIRL UNTITLED is a uniquely authentic feature film - a snapshot of the first generation growing up in an uncertain digital age. Born out of extensive research and filmed over one year, allowing for spontaneity and responses to real life events, we are taken into the heart of a diverse group of young teenage female friends (mostly non-actors) as they move from childhood towards young adulthood. We will watch as they test out their identities, work out how they fit into the world, how to survive and who’s their squad - against a real-life London backdrop. Over a year we will see the cast physically grow and capture the factors that have contributed to the alarming spike in rates of mental health issues amongst today’s youth: familial, academic or social media. We will collaborate with academics and experts to understand and interpret these patterns before, during and between filming blocks. ‘Live’ research will inform the visceral experience and will help convey these vital issues with depth and complexity. Director Sarah Gavron will work with the experts to stay connected through an outreach programme after the film’s release where the content can be used to prompt debate and discussion.
