Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC) quinquagenarian (QQG) practice network. Creating a longitudinal linked sentinel database of 50 years clinical and virology data and prospective research platform. (360G-Wellcome-212763_Z_18_Z)
Create a 50 year data and practice network: The Royal College of General Practitioner (RCGP) Research and Surveillance Centre (RSC) has conducted flu and infectious disease surveillance and published their incidence in a “Weekly return” for over 50 years (www.rcgp.org.uk/rsc). It is nationally representative, (>250practices, N>2.5million), extracting and analysing all coded and numeric data, weekly. Practices take respiratory virological samples (n=2K/year) including genetic analysis of influenza. RSC practices collect other samples, questionnaires and recruit to studies. This application transforms the archived inaccessible data into searchable standard formats, enhancing retrospective and prospective research. Scope: \- 1967-1990s aggregate data of monitored infections (spreadsheets) \- 1990s-2013 aggregate infection data extracted from computerised medical record (CMR) systems (databased). \- 1993-on virology data; 2014-on frozen samples, from Public Health England (PHE) \- 2015-on, comprehensive clinical and prescribing data from >250 practices at individual level overlapping with previous extracts. \- 1989-on approved pseudonymisation methods linking hospital, cancer register, death and other data. \- Technical/governance: Rapid data processing (N>2million, <3hours), practice dashboard, secure network with machine learning and an established approval process. \- This collaboration will promote and sustain this resource. Resource requested: Staff: SQL developer, “epi-stats” researcher (30months), virologist (12months). Hospital data fees, project management, IT, launch, workshops, publications.
