World Mosquito Programme (360G-Wellcome-212914_Z_18_B)

£13,644,589

We request support for the continued development and implementation of the Wolbachia method to prevent transmission of a range of arboviral diseases. The World Mosquito Program, formerly the Eliminate Dengue Program, has an ambitious and achievable plan to scale-up its deployments on the assumption that accumulating evidence for effectiveness of its technology shows significant disease impact. Our initial interactions with disease endemic country governments indicates there will be high demand for access to the technology. We plan to build the structure and expertise to be able to rapidly deploy the technology to these countries. This new investment will support the core functions of the Program and assist establish two regional offices in preparation to support future rollout of Wolbachia in more than 20 dengue- endemic countries. We specifically aim to: - Provide core support for existing sites to ensure quality and preparedness for scale-up; - Ensure the protection afforded by Wolbachia endures through ongoing monitoring; - Optimize the delivery of the Wolbachia method to provide the most cost effective and highest quality deployment methodology; - Develop and test an on-line knowledge transfer and training platform for existing and new sites; and - Develop a flexible framework to support national rollout strategies.
