Policy Engagement Award (360G-Wellcome-215743_Z_19_Z)
AHRI’s research on HIV and TB speaks directly to the local, provincial and National Department of Health and is global relevance. This pilot project aims to develop AHRI expertise, experience, partnerships and infrastructure, to stimulate a "research to policy action" pathway. We focus on the local and national environment, to maximise our impact on HIV and TB. We will develop our partnerships with local (HEARD, KZN Department of Health), national (SANAC) and international (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) stakeholders to enable us to deliver, by the end of this pilot: Training and subsequent delivery of three exemplar AHRI policy briefs An AHRI "policy" group, including junior and senior scientists, communications, and administrators, who can act as future internal advocates for policy relevant activities Two "research to action" policy fora with KZN Department of Health, in partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation A national conference, comprising SANAC and the national HIV and TB thinktanks, based on AHRI research outputs Bidirectional staff secondment of staff between AHRI and KZN Department of Health, to bridge the gap between research and policy.
