The impact of Empagliflozin on Left atrIal Volume and the feasibility of using Fitbit and mHealth to prescribe Exercise in non-diabetic stage B Heart Failure (ELIVE-HF) (360G-Wellcome-225735_Z_22_Z)
This study will assess the impact of a drug called Empagliflozin, which is a sodium-glucose transporter protein-2 inhibitor in pre-heart failure patients without diabetes. Pre-heart failure patients have changes in the structure or function of their heart that put them at high risk of developing heart failure and other cardiovascular adverse outcomes. This medicine is currently used to treat type 2 diabetes and/or patients with heart failure with symptoms. This medicine has the potential to improve the structure of the heart but has yet to be studied in non-diabetic patients with pre-heart failure. We aim to see if this medicine can improve the structure of the heart as assessed by a cardiac MRI over 6 months. The second part of this study assesses whether it is feasible to improve physical activity using mHealth in patients with pre- heart failure. mHealth is defined by the WHO as the "use of mobile and wireless technologies to support the achievement of health objectives". All enrolled subjects will be set up with a Fitbit, text based motivational reinforcement and exercise prescription to see if mHealth is feasible in this population to potentially improve physical activity and reach patient activity goals over 6 months.
