Kemri-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) core funding renewal 2023-2030. (Kenya AAP) (360G-Wellcome-227131_Z_23_Z)

We are a diverse, multi-disciplinary research Programme with a vision for transformative research in national and international health. We believe that transformative research is led from within the region, that impactful research requires inter-disciplinary collaborative work, and that development and training of scientists in the region is imperative. We take a distributed and inter-disciplinary approach to scientific leadership, in order to empower a diverse range of principal investigators to develop and lead ambitious research at the most pressing public health problems, supported by an integrated and coordinated research platform, that facilitates and promotes collaboration in cross-disciplinary research themes. Our strategic aims are to produce impactful research throughout the translational pathway, from the broad systems perspective to transform the delivery of care (e.g. “Health Systems”), through translational work to reduce mortality with evidence-based prevention or treatment (e.g. “Vaccines” or “Clinical Care”); to discovery of the fundamental biology to produce the next generation of interventions (e.g. “Pathogen Biology”). We nurture close partnerships with our communities and participants, the wider public, and policy makers. We respond rapidly and flexibly to emerging public health needs, as shown by the broad multi- disciplinary response to COVID.
