Nigerian Pediatric TB Clinical Trial Consortium (NiPTCC) (360G-Wellcome-352491_Z_26_Z)
Nigeria has a high paediatric tuberculosis (TB) burden, yet limited Nigeria- specific evidence exists on how to adopt, operationalise, and scale WHO- recommended shorter treatment regimens for children with non-severe, drug- susceptible TB. Although national guidance is increasingly aligned with WHO recommendations, implementation remains uneven, and Nigeria lacks a coordinated, trial-ready platform to generate local evidence for policy and scale-up. This development award will establish the Nigerian Paediatric TB Clinical Trial Consortium (NiPTCC), a national platform led by NTBLCP, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation Netherlands, KNCV Nigeria, and IVAN Research Institute. The consortium will strengthen governance, identify and prepare trial-ready paediatric TB sites, develop harmonised standard operating procedures, establish data and laboratory quality systems, and build caregiver and community engagement structures. It will also generate implementation evidence on barriers and facilitators to adoption, acceptability, feasibility, and scalability of WHO-recommended paediatric TB treatment regimens across Nigerian health-system contexts. The key outputs will include a functional national paediatric TB clinical trial consortium, a site-readiness and capacity-strengthening package, and a fundable protocol for a future multicentre pragmatic trial comparing WHO-recommended paediatric TB regimens in Nigeria. Keywords: paediatric tuberculosis, Nigeria, clinical trial consortium, implementation science, treatment shortening, WHO regimen, child health, TB policy.
