Recipient Org: Charity Number SC037103
Recipient Org: Description Hope is a pregnancy crisis centre offering free counselling and advice to those affected by an unplanned pregnancy or any form of pregnancy crisis. In addition we offer support for any form of baby loss whether it be miscarriage, post termination issues, still birth or adoption. As part of our service we also support women and families with baby equipment and clothing. Many referrals for counselling and advice come via GPs or midwives. Our baby equipment work is usually heavily utilised by health visitors and community and family nurses who refer clients to us who are struggling to provide for their families mostly due to financial hardship or due to living in temporary housing or hostels. A third aspect of our work is that we have a schools team who deliver lessons in 9 high schools in the area on unplanned pregnancy and the development of the foetus. Our city centre location allows women and couples to seek our advice in a quiet, safe and secure environment. The location means that women can attend appointments easily and discreetly. Teenage girls particularly find it useful and easy to locate and could just be in town whilst seeking advice from Hope. Our service is completely free of charge which is essential as many clients are already financially disadvantaged. For some women who seek our support for baby loss we could see that client nearly every week for a number of months. Something many would never be able to afford if the service had to be paid for. There is no other service like ours in Perth and Kinross and we work closely with other local organisations such as women's aid, the rape crisis centre, the women's unit at the local hospital and GP practices.
