Recipient Org: Description Pain Concern aims to inform, empower and support people living with chronic pain. Research shows a negative impact on quality of life potentially greater compared to the general population and other long-term conditions (Hadi et al, 2019). Unlike acute pain, chronic pain is usually incurable ? but it can be managed, mitigating its impact. To help support people living with chronic pain, our services are: Airing Pain: Airing Pain is a series of half-hour audio podcasts produced and presented by Paul Evans, a multi-award-winning producer with 40 years of experience as a programme maker who has also lived with fibromyalgia for over half his working life. In 2021-22 we released 5 editions and there are now 131 editions available on our website and platforms such as Apple Podcasts. Information Leaflets: We provide a range of evidence-based information leaflets written by experts, including ?Manage Your Pain?, ?Opioids?, ?Antidepressants? and ?Parenting a child with chronic pain?. These are available on our website and distributed via health and pain clinics. Information is held to the highest standard and updated every 3 years. ?The managing pain booklets are a really useful resource for our chronic pain patients.? Physiotherapist Pain Matters magazine: Our quarterly magazine contains news and features on self-management techniques, pain treatments and personal experiences of living with pain. Our editor invites staff and patients from NHS pain management programmes to guest-edit the different editions, bringing fresh content and personal accounts. We also provide Pain Press, a free online supplement. Self-Management Navigator Tool: Our research-based award-winning Self-Management Navigator Tool, which we continue to trial and develop, helps to aid patient and healthcare provider consultations, by helping patients navigate their concerns and raise the most important questions in primary care appointments. Helpline: We provide confidential, anonymous and free telephone and email services through our helpline. Trained and skilled Helpline volunteers aim to support and empower callers through empathetic listening, information about pain and self-management techniques and signposting to other high-quality resources (no medical advice). We are members of the Helplines Partnership. In 2021 our Helpline volunteers received an Inspiring Volunteers Award in recognition of their service throughout the pandemic. Online Communities: At HealthUnlocked, the Pain Concern online community is one of the most active UK forums providing high-quality, moderated peer support. Website: A searchable and accessible hub for all our resources. Rebuilt in 2020, the site compatible with browser readers for font and background adjustments and read-aloud.
