Recipient Org: Description The Well Multi-Cultural Advice Centre was established in 1994 to support the ethnic minority communities in the Govanhill area of Glasgow. The Well aims to support these communities to overcome complex disadvantages such as poverty, racism, social isolation, cultural differences, and limited English. To achieve this, they offer a programme of weekly events across South Glasgow, including one-to-one advice clinics, educational workshops, and social groups. Through these they offer a way for users to obtain support and advice on issues such as benefit claims, welfare rights, and immigration. They are not exclusively a women?s organisation, but offer bespoke programmes aimed towards women such as mum and baby groups and women?s only workshops. They estimate they support over 500 people every year, half of whom are women. Their work mainly benefits ethnic minority communities living in Govanhill and surrounding areas. Around 40% of Govanhill residents are minority ethnic, speaking 80 different languages. Govanhill also contains datazones among the the most deprived 5% in Scotland, according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation. Last year, 565 individuals were helped with 6168 visits (5406 of which were information and advice related).
