Recipient Org: Description Maryhill Integration Network (MIN) is a grassroots organisation based in north-west Glasgow established to bring asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and the settled inhabitants of the city together. Since 2001, we have been developing projects which support positive social change by providing a welcoming, safe and inclusive space with opportunities for collaboration and connection. MIN?s Vision is for ?an inclusive society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, and can live supported and connected lives?, and our Mission is ?to develop a unique and creative environment in which communities can come together to share experiences and demonstrate the value of cultural diversity in Scotland?. Our work is structured around three themes and strategic goals: 1. Human Rights and Citizenship - Provide advice, support and advocacy for asylum seekers and refugees, and promote empowerment through confidence building, learning, skills development, and voluntary opportunities. 2. Wellbeing and Safety - Take measures to combat racism and discrimination regarding race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation in order to promote feelings of safety and belonging. 3. Arts and Culture - Create a welcoming and culturally sensitive environment as a basis to strengthen social bonds across the community through participatory projects. MIN?s activities include a weekly programme which offers: - 7 community participation groups - 3 learning opportunities - 2 advice surgeries Alongside our programme, MIN hosts at least 5 community events each year, to mark significant festivals and celebrations, for example, International Women's Day, Black History Month and Refugee Festival Scotland. Each event attracts, on average, between 100-120 people as audience members, or indirect beneficiaries. In addition we also develop outreach projects with schools across the city to develop education resources which share good practice in relation to teaching around human rights and migration. MIN works with, on average, 30 partners over the course of a year through our groups, outreach projects and events. In addition, we have a volunteering programme which supports up to 40 volunteers each year to play an active role in MIN?s activities; just over 50% of our volunteers are seeking asylum or have refugee status. Lived experience representation is core to our work, and as a grassroots organisation, it has been a key to creating the welcoming environment we are well-known for within the community. At present, our staff team has over 60% representation from a variety of different backgrounds; all with lived experience of either asylum, refuge or migration. We continue to ensure that lived experience remains a focus within our team by structuring our team with an intentionally shallow hierarchy which aims to nurture individual professional expertise and experience. It is evidence of our commitment to equality of opportunity and living our core values of inclusion, welcome, respect and empowerment.
